Vigilante Coffee is opening a roastery and cafe in Oceanside, Calif.

The Hyattsville coffee company is planning to open a new location in a former beauty school at 1575 S. Coast Hwy., a few blocks off the beach in the city north of San Diego.

Owner Chris Vigilante said the unique building was a good fit, as its Hyattsville location is in a former Model T showroom and its College Park location is in a former liquor store.

“We really love to build our cafes in unique buildings and the former School of Beauty building was a great fit,” he told What Now San Diego.

The Oceanside College of Beauty building is considering an architectural icon in Oceanside, due to its Mid-Century Modern butterfly roof, yellow brick and 12-foot glass storefront.

Vigilante, who decorates his coffee shops with skateboards, said the area’s surfing and skateboarding history was also a draw.

The roastery has already gained national attention, being named the best coffee in Maryland by Food & Wine and gaining notice in the Washington PostTIME and the New Yorker.
