Hyattsville native and D.C. muralist MISS CHELOVE is currently working on a series of murals inside the newly renovated Mount Rainier Library.
MISS CHELOVE, whose legal name is Cita Sadeli, told the Hyattsville Wire that her love of art was first sparked by graffiti along Route 1 she saw as a child growing up in the area.
Sheena Ashun and Rafael Rodriguez, who are both young artists that have worked with founder Brooke Kidd at Joe’s Movement Emporium. are assisting MISS CHELOVE through the entire project at the Mount Rainier library.
Her four colorful murals underway center on a quote from the Roald Dahl book “Matilda”: “Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.” The project is set to be completed by the end of the month.
MISS CHELOVE’s work can be seen around D.C., such as the large-scale mural at the Hotel Zena in Thomas Circle called “Guardians of the Four Directions,” which she completed during the pandemic.
Between the newly renovated Mount Rainier library and the new one in Hyattsville slated to open this summer, residents along the corridor will have two new library options.
The Prince George’s County library system is currently in phase two of a four-phase reopening, with limited branch services. Libraries in Bowie, Laurel and New Carrolton are among those offering limited in-person library use at this time.
