Four Route 1 Metro Stations Are Now Closed for the Summer

Four Metro stations on the Route 1 corridor are now closed through the end of summer.

The West Hyattsville, Hyattsville Crossing (previously known as Prince George’s Plaza), College Park and Greenbelt stations closed for repairs on Saturday, May 29, and will not reopen until Sept. 6.

The closures are part of extensive renovations of 20 of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s 45 outdoor station platforms, which have fallen into disrepair from routine wear and tear and exposure to the weather.

The renovations include new slip-resistant tiles, stainless-steel platform shelters with windscreens and digital displays, new train information screens, more electrical outlets, renovated bathrooms and LED lighting, among other things.

During the repairs, WMATA will offer free shuttle bus service from the four stations to the Fort Totten station, which connects to the Red and Green Lines.

Shuttles will run every six to 10 minutes from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays.
