Riverdale Park Touted as a Top D.C. Suburb in Washington Post

The Washington Post highlighted Riverdale Park as a great place to live Wednesday, July 28, touting its affordability and diversity.

The story features some local hotspots including Town Center Market, the Riverdale Park Farmer’s Market2Fifty Texas BBQ, the Station at Riverdale Park and the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail.

But it says the main draws are the community’s character:

“There are some weeks I don’t get in my car,” said Dan Collinge, a program analyst with the Interior Department who moved to Riverdale Park in 2015.

In some places he’s lived, Collinge said, residents expect the town to adapt to them.

“Here people adapt to become more like Riverdale Park. Instead of going home after work and shutting themselves inside, people are oriented to the public spaces, like the farmers market and the Town Center Market. We’ve met so many people out walking our dog on the trails,” he said.

The Post also quotes former town council member Marsha Dixon on its diversity.

The town is “diverse in every way,” she said. “We’re African American. Our neighbors are white, Indian, gay and lesbian. It’s great because this is what my son thinks is normal.”
