Construction is well underway on a new Kaiser Permanente health center next to the West Hyattsville Metro station.
Located at 5620 Ager Road, the 48,000-square-foot facility is part of a major expansion by Kaiser across the greater D.C. area that includes six new facilities being built over the next two years from Chevy Chase to Woodbridge, Va.
With 37 exam rooms, lab facilities, a pharmacy and a three-level parking garage, the Kaiser facility will be 37 percent larger than its current location at University Town Center about two miles away. It will serve an estimated 27,000 patients a year.
The new location is part of a mixed-use development called Riverfront at West Hyattsville, which includes 183 townhomes that are already for sale.
Developers are also moving ahead with plans for the next phase of the project, which will include apartment buildings with ground-floor retail.
Riverfront is a joint project of Gilbane Development Co. and the Hogan Companies, owned by Gov. Larry Hogan.
