Hyattsville’s Adagio Dance Studio Returns to Indoor Instruction

A Hyattsville dance studio aimed at kids under the age of 12 is resuming indoor instruction this September after adapting to coronavirus-related restrictions over the last 17 months.

When the pandemic began last year, Adagio Dance Studio switched to online classes and then began meeting at Driskell Park with masks and yoga mats through the winter, though humidity and swarming cicadas led to a pause over the summer.

“Every week we had families approaching us about enrolling their children in our outside dance classes,” owner Christina Green told the Hyattsville Wire. “Ironically, our studio grew tremendously over the pandemic!”

The dance studio, which started in 2010 and moved to Hyattsville in 2019, will begin its regular fall classes on Sept. 7, meeting at Just Rock at 4000 Rhode Island Ave. in Brentwood and at Joe’s Movement Emporium at 3309 Bunker Hill Rd. in Mount Rainier.

Studio space will be limited to dancers and instructors, who will all be masked, and parents will be able to observe the class via Zoom. When the weather cools down, Green said she hopes to return to outdoor classes as well.

Green began dancing in church at the age of 2, studying at the Joyce LaVerne School of Dance, BalletNova and Montgomery College. Over the years, she has trained hundreds of dancers who now work professionally as dancers, choreographers, studio owners and company directors.
