Ledo Pizza is now open in College Park for its soft opening, 10 months after the landmark local restaurant’s previous owners closed doors.
Located at 4509 Knox Rd., the eatery shut down last November after family members of the original founders retired.
Now managed by Greenbelt-based Chesapeake Hospitality, the restaurant has been fully refurbished with a contemporary interior including a row of window booths in University of Maryland red as well as high-backed chairs facing a gleaming bar with three large sports TVs.
Overall, the new interior has the same layout as before but with a more airy, modern look.
“The response has been great so far,” Mike Donnelly, director of restaurants for Chesapeake Hospitality, which runs seven other Ledo’s in Maryland, told the Hyattsville Wire. “Everyone has enjoyed both the new look and the new quality.”
He said that pizza has outsold everything else so far, with meat-lovers and Buffalo chicken pizza the top choices.
Started in 1955 in nearby Adelphi, Ledo hosted sports legends like Yogi Berra, Johnny Unitas and Joe Namath in its heyday. The old College Park Ledo Restaurant was separate from the chain of Ledo pizzerias, but under Chesapeake Hospitality it is now a franchised restaurant.
No delivery is available and as of now a grand opening has not been set, but Donnelly noted people can download the Ledo Pizza app for iPhones or Androids to order and curbside pickup is available. Customers can even notify Ledo when they pull up for pick up and they will walk the order out to the car.
Hours are Sunday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. – 2 a.m.
