Wills Decorating in Hyattsville Makes Iconic TESST Sign Its Own

Wills Decorating is revamping a piece of Hyattsville history.

Located at 5122 Baltimore Ave., the interior design store is redoing the iconic TESST sign on its front exterior — with the letters changed to read “WILLS.”

Co-owner Michael Richards told the Hyattsville Wire that D.C.-based Gelberg Signs was able to reuse most of the old sign, with some updates.

“We asked the sign company to make the new sign look exactly like the old sign in design, font and color,” he said.

The letters will be lit from behind with LED lights in the same red shade as the old sign for the TESST College of Technology, a for-profit vocational school that was located in the building from 1957 to 1998.

The sign company is also adding some other graphics design elements to the front of the building, which Wills Decorating updated extensively before moving into it in 2020.

The façade improvements at Wills were funded in part by Hyattsville’s commercial facade improvement program.
