Popular Hyattsville bakery Sugar Vault Desserts & Bakery will soon be going mobile.

Owner Jennifer Powell recently shared a photo of a black-and-white food truck she’s nicknamed “Rusty,” noting that it had passed a state vehicle inspection and just needs health and fire safety permits to begin operation.

“We’re one step closer to hitting the road,” she wrote.

Located at 5606 Baltimore Ave. in the Arts District, Sugar Vault often has a long line out front of customers waiting for its menu of 150 cupcake flavors and a rotating selection of desserts such as banana pudding, cheesecake and cinnamon rolls.

The food truck will serve milkshakes, ice cream sundaes and other frozen treats.

Powell taught herself to bake at home 12 years ago. After she had been baking for friends and family for free, her sister set up a website over the Christmas holiday in 2015, and orders came rolling in.

The bakery opened in 2016 and has been an anchor business for the Arts District in Hyattsville.
