Riverdale Park to Start Developing ‘Field of Dreams’ Park

The town of Riverdale Park will begin developing a grassy lot locally known as the “field of dreams” into a park.

Located at the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Tuckerman Street, the lot is located just over the bridge from the Station at Riverdale Park, next to the roundabout.

The town has been trying to figure out what to do with the long, narrow patch of land since the construction of the nearby mixed-use development, even holding a workshop for residents with the Neighborhood Design Center.

Residents have suggested it would be a good place for summertime “movies on the lawn” or other outdoor festivals. The current plan involves adding a natural play area, benches, bike racks and lots of trees to make the area more welcoming.

The state Department of Natural Resources recently approved spending $177,750 installing a sidewalk, while the town is working with the county to plant the trees.
