A toy company is making a Hot Wheels-style model of Hyattsville’s first-in-the-nation Chevy Bolt electric police car.
Indianapolis-based GreenLight Collectibles makes die-cast model cars of famous cars such as Indy 500 cars, U.S. Postal Service trucks and the 1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible from “Thelma and Louise.”
As part of its Hot Pursuit collection of authentic police cars from around the country, the company will release a model of the Hyattsville police’s 2017 Chevrolet Bolt electric car in March, complete with the department’s signature blue logo.
The cars, which are available in toy stores as well as on Amazon, generally retail for around $12.
The Hyattsville police car was the first electric patrol vehicle in the state and the first Bolt used as a police car in the country.
The city now maintains a fleet of greener cars, including electric motorcycles, hybrid SUVs, a hybrid undercover car and Segways and an electric golf cart used to navigate crowded public events.
It also maintains eight free Level 2 charging stations in city parking lots and two fast-chargers that can be used for a small fee.
