A new taqueria opened last weekend on the Route 1 corridor just north of Arts District Hyattsville.
Located at 5803 Baltimore Ave., the former location of Las Comadres, Taqueria Los Perez has an extensive menu of traditional Mexican birria tacos and trendy quesabirrias made with pork, beef cheeks, pickled pork, beef tripe and crispy fried chicken.
It also has a mix of dishes from around Latin America, including Gorditas, fajitas, Mondongo soup, a Cuban sandwich and other tortas as well as a breakfast menu with huevos rancheros and other dishes.
Originally from Guatemala, owner Hector Perez has lived on and around the Route 1 corridor for a decade. Perez told the Wire he worked at another taqueria before deciding to open his own with the help of his family and that this was his foray into the restaurant business.
The restaurant is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and you can dine-in, take out or order delivery now on Uber Eats and soon on Door Dash.
Taqueria Los Perez is available for private events, or you can hire Perez to hold a taquiza at your house, making tacos from scratch for your guests.
It joins other taquerias along Route 1 including Little Miner Tacos in Brentwood, Taqueria La Placita in Edmonston, Tacos a la Madre in Berwyn and Taqueria Habanero in College Park.
Next Sunday, Feb. 13, Perez said he’ll be holding a grand opening with taco specials.
