Capitol Kettle Corn Is Coming to College Park

A business on the Route 1 corridor that has been selling kettle corn around the greater D.C. area for more than 20 years is opening a storefront in College Park.

Capitol Kettle Corn is moving into a 1,750-square-foot space in the Hollywood Shopping Center, which also includes Mom’s Organic Market and Proteus Bicycles, according to commercial real estate services company KLNB.

The company’s name can already be seen along an interior wall, along with designated spaces for lemonade and ice cream sales.

Capitol Kettle Corn has long operated at farmers’ markets in Silver Spring and Dupont Circle, festivals and even shops like Good Food Markets and Total Wine, though it has long planned on a brick-and-mortar store. It’s also available in bulk for fundraisers.

Owner Edwina Arenas, who goes by Eee, started the business with her husband in 2010 after seeing someone making kettle corn at a sporting event and decided to try it as a hobby, initially selling at Saturday flea markets.

The couple use a top grain mushroom-style corn grown within the Chesapeake Bay watershed, with flavors like Old Bay, Ethiopian Spice, sea salt and spicy hot chocolate.

The flavors have D.C.-themes like Kamala Caramel, Filibuster Butter and and Tidal Basin Cherry Blossom. There’s even a red, white and blue-colored popcorn.

Along with her sister, Zee, Arenas also runs Lemonade Love, which sells alongside Capitol Kettle Corn at the Silver Spring and Dupont Circle farmers markets.
