Federalist Pig co-founder and pitmaster Rob Sonderman has won another award from the prestigious Michelin Guide.
The popular barbecue joint, which has a location in Hyattsville, first joined the guide’s Bib Gourmand list of great, moderately priced restaurants in 2019, with the guide calling its food “stone-cold serious barbecue.” It also made the list in 2020, 2021 and now in 2022.
Sonderman’s latest venture, a fried-chicken joint in Petworth called Honeymoon Chicken, also made the cut this year.
The Michelin Guide called the menu “fancy fried chicken,” noting it is “brined for 24 hours and fried to crisp perfection,” while the restaurant resembles “a modern diner with old-school vibes.”
Sonderman was also a guest on “Good Morning America” this week as part of a series on the best barbecue places around the country, and he’ll return on Monday at 8 a.m. to compete in the finals.
Federalist Pig, which parks its Fedmobile food truck at 5504 Baltimore Ave. and has two other locations in Bethesda and Adams Morgan, plans to open a full-service restaurant in Hyattsville by the end of the year, spokesman Justin Omidian told the Hyattsville Wire.
It’s not the only Bib Gourmand winner with ties to Route 1, either. College Park’s Taqueria Habanero has also been on the Michelin Guide list since 2019, with the guide saying “it’s the attention to detail that makes this Mexican spot a neighborhood favorite.”
