New Riverdale Park Sarvis Café Will Offer Culinary Arts Program

A new cafe in Riverdale Park will double as a training facility for workers in the restaurant industry.

Located at 5711 Sarvis Ave. inside the Crestwood Medical Building, Sarvis Café will serve breakfast and lunch featuring dishes from a variety of different cuisines, including halal meals. The new restaurant spot also includes an expansive wooden patio for meetings and other events.

Cooks and servers will be students in a 14-week program on culinary arts and customer service aimed at helping them get work or learn the skills to start their own business.

The cafe will also offer job placement services for students, including those re-entering the workforce, immigrants and refugees. There will be about 45 students in three classes over the course of a year.

Owned and operated by Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization Community Development Corporation, Sarvis Café is a collaboration between the county, the state and Prince George’s Community College.

It will serve the growing restaurant scene along the Route 1 corridor and also complement other efforts to help people break into the industry, including the meal delivery service Foodhini in Woodridge, local hubs for food trucks, and food halls such as miXt in Brentwood, The Hall CP in College Park and the upcoming Le Fantome in Riverdale Park.
