Kermit the Frog Will Deliver University of Maryland’s Commencement Speech Tonight

Kermit the Frog will deliver the commencement speech at the University of Maryland tonight.

The green Muppet known for appearances on “The Muppet Show” and eight feature films plus cameos on “Sesame Street” is expected to speak at graduation ceremonies around 7 p.m.

Kermit was created by University of Maryland alum Jim Henson, who made the first version out of cloth from one of his mother’s coats and a ping-pong ball cut in half. A bronze statue of Henson and Kermit was installed on campus in 2003.

“I am thrilled that our graduates and their families will experience the optimism and insight of the world-renowned Kermit the Frog at such a meaningful time in their lives,” university President Darryll J. Pines said in a statement.

Kermit told NBC News that the speech would focus on not losing your inner child as you head into the adult world.

“Maybe we’re at our best when we allow ourselves to continue to grow and learn something new every day,” Kermit told the network.

You can watch the speech live at 7 p.m. here.
