Route 1 Group Plans June 14 ‘No Kings’ Parade In College Park

A group of Route 1 residents formed a chapter of Indivisible in February and have quickly grown to more than 300 members.

After Trump’s second inauguration, Stephanie DiLorenzo decided to start a chapter of the national progressive group that started during his first term.

“I saw one of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ Instagram lives where she said, ‘We need to build community’ and I thought, ‘Alright, let’s do this!'” she told the Hyattsville Wire.

Indivisible Route 1 Corridor participated in national protests on April 5 and May 1 and has showed up to support bringing Beltsville resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia home from a notorious Salvadoran prison.

Currently, it’s planning a “No Kings” parade with music and art in College Park at the same time as Trump’s planned military parade in D.C. on June 14.

Co-leader Laura Usher said the group is also working on long-term projects, including supporting candidates in next year’s midterms and lobbying for stronger state laws.

“We’re still a very young group, so we’re reaching out to build our community and also reading and studying, learning how to be effective advocates in this unprecedented time,” Usher told the Wire.
