Hyattsville Resident Launches Ritual Specialty Coffee
A Hyattsville resident is selling specialty-grade Colombian coffee beans on the Route 1 corridor.
Nicolas Moreno told the Hyattsville Wire that he learned about coffee through his Colombian heritage. But after getting more involved in roasting coffee, he decided to start Ritual Specialty Coffee.
For now, Moreno is focusing on market research and developing the business, but he hopes to sell coffee beans nationwide.
For now, he’s selling a limited first batch of 100% Colombian, Valle del Cauca beans which are ranked among the highest quality by the Specialty Coffee Association.
Moreno told the Wire that he loves the local coffee scene, including Vigilante Coffee and Zeke’s, and notes you can even find a decent variety at Whole Foods in Riverdale Park.
Still, he thinks there’s room for one more.
“American coffee culture is so rush-oriented — everything’s to-go in huge sizes. There’s no time for that ritual of brewing good coffee at home and letting the house fill with that aroma,” he told the Wire. “I’m not sure we need more coffee shops so much as we need people making better coffee at home!”
You can order a $20 bag of Ritual Specialty Coffee here.
