Korean Barbecue and Hot Pot Restaurant Coming to Canvas Apartments
A Korean barbecue and hotpot restaurant is headed to the Canvas Apartments building in Hyattsville.
Located at 5334 Rhode Island Ave., near the new Akira Ramen restaurant, KPOT BBQ & Hot Pot is a national chain with more than 100 restaurants, including locations in Laurel, Rockville and Falls Church.
The all-you-can-eat restaurant follows the typical format for a Korean barbecue, allowing customers to cook their own food at the table, which is especially fun for a group or family outing.
It will be the latest place to get Korean barbecue on the Route 1 corridor, following Iron Pig in Berwyn Heights, and Honey Pig and MeatUp in College Park.
Korean barbecue restaurants have grown nationally, driven by increased consumer interest in Korean food and culture and the “experience economy” effects of cooking your own food at your table, which has become especially popular for influencers who share photos and videos on social media.
Along the Route 1 corridor, it’s also a side effect of the sizable population of international students at the University of Maryland from China, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam, although that could be affected by the Trump administration push to revoke student visas.
