New Mural on Renovated Historic Building in Mount Rainier Nears Completion
A massive new mural on a renovated building dating back to 1947 in Mount Rainier is nearly finished.
Artists from 3711 Studios Artist Collective have been working on the mural at 3510 Rhode Island Ave. this week with the help of a large lift.
The mural depicts a great blue heron and lotus flowers, two common sites along the Anacostia River. The design was selected following a community vote conducted by the city’s Arts Commission.
Built in 1947, the building had remained mostly underutilized when Daniel Simon purchased it in 2019. He also renovated the Palmer Building in Hyattsville, where Vigilante Coffee is located.
It’s now home to Station 3510, which exhibits local art and holds community workshops and art classes.
“The mural is really coming along and it’s an incredible sight to see,” wrote Station 3510 on Instagram.
