New York-Based Wonder Food Hall Coming to College Park
A rapidly expanding chain of food halls is opening a location at the former Bagel Place site in College Park as soon as this fall.
Backed by billionaire entrepreneur Marc Lore, Wonder locations feature outposts from celebrity chefs and other restaurants all in one place.
That makes them a little different from food halls such as miXt in Brentwood and the late, lamented Le Fantome at the Station at Riverdale Park, which are oriented more toward bridging the gap between a food truck and a sit-down restaurant.
Wonder already has 54 locations in New York alone, plus others in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Connecticut. It’s recently expanded to the greater D.C. area, with a location on 14th Street and another planned for New Hampshire Avenue, as part of a $700 million expansion.
The College Park location will be at the long-empty space at 7423 Baltimore Ave., the former home of the Bagel Place, which shut down in 2021 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The company’s website notes a September 2025 opening date, although that would be fairly ambitious given the long delays other restaurants have faced in getting permits from the county.
