Hyattsville Held Tenth Annual Zombie Run in Driskell Park
More than 1,300 residents of Hyattsville and neighboring towns gathered at Driskell Park Saturday morning for the tenth annual Zombie Run, which was organized by volunteers with the Hyattsville Elementary PTA and included a 1K family fun run, a one-mile kids run, and a USA Track and Field-certified 5K run.
Like other Route 1 runs, the race through Hyattsville’s Historic District was hilly , with volunteers at each of the eight hills on the course cheering on runners by telling them how many more hills they faced. A group of neighbors even marking the top of the final hill with a big colorful sign that read “Hy Point.”
Participants raced in Zombie Run T-shirts as well as costumes, including Glinda, the Wicked Witch and a flying monkey; the yellow and green Power Rangers; Cruella de Vil; Jafar from “Aladdin” and a giant banana. There was also an awards ceremony after the event with top runners in each age group taking home prizes.
In all, the event raised more than $21,000 for Hyattsville Elementary School.
