ICE May Soon Move Into a Building Near Hyattsville
Immigration and Customs Enforcement may soon move into a building in or near Hyattsville.
In October, the federal agency issued a contract for “administrative office space in support of law enforcement operations” to be located within a five-mile radius of the Hyattsville city limits.
According to the contract, the space must be in Prince George’s County, which is home to more than 227,000 Hispanic residents, or about 14 percent of the county’s total population.
The contract from the General Services Administration requires 3,750 to 5,001 square feet of furnished office space, either in a single location or in three or four offices within the same building. The space would accommodate 20 to 35 private offices, a conference room, and a dedicated server room.
The building cannot also house “agencies or tenants whose clientele or operations conflict with law enforcement functions,” although it’s unclear how broadly ICE would define that.
The contract is for a five-year minimum occupancy, or as long as 10 years. Proposals were due on Friday.
Another federal contract for a six-month supply of shelf-stable meals and for office space in Baltimore indicates that ICE is preparing for a larger presence in Maryland.
