Route 1’s Vibrant Restaurant Scene Garners More Attention
Route 1’s vibrant restaurant scene recently attracted more media attention.
In a round-up of restaurant trends in the greater D.C. area in Washingtonian magazine Tuesday, Food Editor Jessica Sidman included Edmonston’s Taqueria La Placita on a short list of neighborhood restaurants with “staying power” that sometimes get overlooked because they’ve been “consistently serving their neighborhoods for so long.”
Staff writer Ike Allen, meanwhile, said the entire area is overlooked.
“I want to try more places in Prince George’s County, which is underrepresented in DC restaurant coverage, including my own,” he said.
Meantime, D.C. real estate influencer Dustin M. Fox took up the cause of Northwest Chinese Food, which recently said it will have to leave its longtime location in College Park as the building is being torn down to make way for a new apartment complex called Terrapin House.
Noting that Northwest Chinese was named College Park’s 2024 Business of the Year, Fox argued that the move is “erasing the city’s soul.”
“Kung Fu Tea is already gone. A cheesesteak spot is already gone. And now the best Shanxi dishes in the region is now homeless,” he said.
