Hyattsville Food Critic Nominated for 2025 James Beard Award
Hyattsville’s Tim Carman, an award-winning Washington Post food reporter, was nominated for the prestigious 2025 James Beard Award for his writing.
The longtime food writer, whose work over the years has drawn significant attention to the Route 1 dining scene, received a nomination for his 2024 piece, “How a grocery store fight fractured a Maryland town along racial lines,” about a racially charged grocery store in a rural community on the Eastern Shore.
Carman’s work has appeared in multiple volumes of the “Best Food Writing” collection and also in the sixth edition of “Cornbread Nation.” He won the James Beard Award for Best Food Columnist while at Washington City Paper in 2011 and has been nominated for it on several occasions.
The Wire regularly highlights Carman’s praise of local restaurants, where he frequently includes them in his “top restaurants,” best BBQ,” and “best casual” lists.
Carman has been highlighting the best eats in and around the corridor dating as back to 2010, when he was food critic for Washington City Paper.
