Edmonston’s ECO City Farms Raising Money to Replace Ice-Damaged Nursery
ECO City Farms, Route 1’s agricultural education nonprofit, is raising funds to repair its Edmonston nursery, which was damaged during a recent snowstorm.
Located at 4913 Crittenden St., the 15-year-old nursery building was used to grow vegetables and seedlings, including some contracted out to farmers in the region for their own crops.
The roof of the 3,000-square-foot nursery collapsed due to the weight of snow and ice on January 26.
On Friday, the nonprofit teaching farm launched a fundraiser to raise the $25,000 needed to demolish the old nursery, build a new one, and replace damaged materials, such as shelves and electrical fixtures.
The urban farming nonprofit says it plans to add extra support for snow and wind to the new nursery.
