Nationally Recognized Bluesmen Coming to Archie’s Barbershop in Hyattsville
Archie’s Barbershop in Hyattsville is known for its acoustic blues jams on Saturdays.
But the nonprofit venue at 4502 Hamilton St. also holds concerts featuring blues musicians from around the country.
The next concert will feature Detroit-based country blues, twelve-string guitar player and vocalist Todd Albright, whose work builds on the tradition of pre-war blues musicians such as Blind Willie McTell, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Leadbelly.
Albright, who has released an album through Jack White’s Third Man Records, has been praised for making blues classics sound “as if they were written last week.” He’s since launched his own label, Misfortune Records, which will release his fourth album in April.
Albright will be joined by Arthur Terembula, a touring musician who plays country blues and ragtime and also works as a music therapist in pediatric palliative care and hospice.
The venue is run by the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation, named for the legendary bluesman who used to hold blues jams in his barbershop at Mount Rainier, now considered a local historic site.
The show will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17. Tickets are $30. For more information, email info@acousticblues.com.
