Hyattsville to Celebrate 140th Anniversary on April 25

The city of Hyattsville will celebrate its 140th anniversary in late April.

The 140th Anniversary Festival will be held on Saturday, April 25 at Driskell Park, located at 3911 Hamilton St.

Held from 4 to 9 p.m. the celebration will feature live music from Grupo Miel la Dulzura, a DMV-based band that specializes in cumbia, a rhythmic dance music with roots in Colombia that has become a staple of Latin American music.

Another Day Band, which plays smooth jazz and neo-soul; and D.J. Los, a Los Angeles-based D.J. who spins an eclectic mix of songs, will also perform.

There will also be pony rides, a petting zoo, a rock-climbing wall, face painting and inflatable climbing structures. A fireworks show is slated for 8:30 p.m.

Food and beverage vendors include local favorites Catalyst Hot Dogs, Cocineros, Franklin’s, Maryland Meadworks, Streetcar 82 Brewing Co., and Mister Magic ice cream, among others.

There will be limited on-site parking, so the city is encouraging residents to carpool or walk if possible.
