College Park’s Arbor Apartments Partner With Community Forklift
When University of Maryland students move out of The Arbor apartments at the end of a semester, they’ll be able to donate their unneeded furniture, appliances and household items on site.
Thanks to a partnership with adaptive reuse nonprofit Community Forklift, a reuse and donation program has been built into the renovated apartment building at 4800 Berwyn House Rd.
A spokeswoman for New York-based Cape Advisors said the program will allow tenants to leave the items for free pickup, “making reuse as easy as leaving things behind.”
At full buildout, the building’s management team projects the program could divert up to 85,000 pounds of material that would have otherwise been thrown away.
Developers also salvaged items for donation while refurbishing the 1965 building, including a gas range that went to a D.C. household that had gone without a working stove for six months.
