Hyattsville’s Big New 7-Eleven Goes Beyond Typical Offerings

A new 7-Eleven near the Hyattsville Crossing Metro station goes beyond the usual offerings.

Located at 3599 East-West Highway, across from the Mall at Prince George’s on the former Sunoco site, the gas station and convenience store is part of a a newer design and approach from the Texas-based chain, which has been rapidly expanding.

Along with the usual Slurpees and hot dogs, the 2,000-square-foot interior includes a number of items that show the store did some homework on the Route 1 corridor.

An end cap display features packaged semita de piña, a traditional Salvadoran sweet bread; marquesote, a sponge cake popular in Mexico and El Salvador; and similar pastries.

The store also sells packages of dried football lentil; brown lentil; kolo, a dry-roasted barley snack; injera bread and other staples of Ethiopian cuisine, all of which are highlighted in a sign near the door in Amharic.

One section includes a display of University of Maryland memorabilia. You can also buy a variety of straw cowboy hats, including one decorated like the American flag, or pick up the morning-after pill, particularly helpful as the store is open 24 hours a day.

The store also offers bill paying services, money orders, money transfers, lottery tickets and “cash loads” which allow you to deposit paper money directly into a digital account such as Cash App or 7-Eleven’s Wallet app.
