New Barbershop Turns Around Historic Building in Mount Rainier

A new barbershop in Mount Rainier has revitalized a historic building that had fallen into disrepair.

Located at 3829 34th St. just north of the roundabout, The District Grooming Company is run by Master Barber David Addison and his wife Courtney, an entrepreneur who has run several other businesses.

The couple told the Wire they were originally looking for a space for the barber shop elsewhere along the Route 1 corridor but decided on Mount Rainier when they saw the three story white house.

Built in 1913, the building was home to the Island Ice Cream shop until it closed in 2012. It was then converted into a boarding house.

The Addisons have remodeled the building with support from Mount Rainier’s facade improvement program and the FDC First Mount Rainier Million Dollar Investment Fund.

Since opening over the winter, The District Grooming Company has offered high-end barbering services including precision haircuts, beard grooming, hot towel shaves, facial treatments, and specialized loc maintenance and styling.

The Addisons are planning a grand opening celebration this fall.
