All of the Purple Line Tracks Have Now Been Laid

The Purple Line is now 90% complete, with all of the tracks now laid.

Earlier this month, workers made the final rail connection for the 16-mile line during a ceremony at the future 16th Street-Woodside Station in Silver Spring.

In all, 193,100 feet of track have been laid for the light-rail line in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.

The remaining construction includes finishing structural elements at the stations, installing train and traffic signal controls and adding public art and landscaping. Operators are now regularly testing trains at night in Prince George’s County.

Construction is set to be finished by the end of this year, with the first passengers riding in the winter of 2027.
