Trolley Trail Day to Draw Thousands to Route 1 Corridor Today
The annual Trolley Trail Day is returning to the Route 1 corridor today, with fun runs, live music and family activities.
Organized by the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, the event celebrating the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail that started in 2019 will feature more than a dozen activity hubs this year, stretching from Mount Rainier to College Park.
The day kicks off at 9 a.m. with a series of morning fitness events, including the College Park parkrun, a slow-roll bike ride out of Mount Rainier, and a multi-distance fun run hosted by RunnersHy and Haraka in Hyattsville. Animal lovers can also join a “Pup & Pet Parade” in Brentwood starting at 9 a.m.
Events will be centered around various hubs along the trail such as the Gateway Farmers Market, Melrose Skate Park and the Old Parish House.
There will also be live music throughout the day from 20 different acts, including Route 1 groups such as the HyFi Groove Society, the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation and the College Park Arts Exchange.
Route 1 businesses will also be giving out perks throughout the day, including a “Kids Eat Free” special at Pizzeria Paradiso, specials at Franklins and discounts at The Board and Brew.
The celebration wraps up with an evening “Night at the Museum” rock concert at the College Park Aviation Museum starting at 5 p.m., featuring performances by Sara B & The Backline, Laundry World, and the College Park Chorale.
