Massive Grad Student Housing Opening Soon in College Park

A massive new housing complex dedicated to University of Maryland graduate students will open in mid-August.

Located at 4646 Graduate Way, just off Campus Drive, Discovery House is a 465-unit, 741-bed development that will nearly double UMD’s graduate student housing capacity. Built by Mosaic Partners, it is the first new university-affiliated graduate housing to open since 1995.

To make moving in easier for students, rooms come fully furnished with an in-unit washer and dryer as well as a couch, bed, dresser, and desk. Along with a top-floor terrace and two courtyards, the building features 16 private study rooms.

Monthly rents range from $995 for a room in a five-bedroom, three-bathroom layout up to $1,790 for a studio apartment, leading some UMD students to complain that the complex is not affordable enough.

While units are already available for lease, the official move-in day is Aug. 12.

Discovery House joins The Atworth as another recent housing development located just off the Purple Line near the Discovery District research park, which is increasingly driving development in College Park.
