Duck Donuts to Open College Park Location This Fall

The popular Duck Donuts chain will open a new location in College Park this fall, with an official grand opening scheduled for  Saturday, Sept. 19, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Located at 4360 Knox Rd. on the ground floor of the Union on Knox apartment building, the shop will serve donuts with its unique made-to-order model.

Rather than selecting pre-made donuts from a display case, customers watch vanilla cake donuts drop fresh out of the fryer and then customize their order with a choice of various icings and toppings ranging from classics like cinnamon sugar to newer flavors like bacon and salted caramel.

Founded in Duck, N.C., in 2006, the chain rapidly grew to more than 125 locations, but it recently appointed a new CEO to streamline operations and revitalize the brand amid closures.

The nearest Duck Donut locations are currently in Rockville, Md., and Arlington, Va. Local franchise owner Cameron Moore said he wanted to open one in Prince George’s County so his family wouldn’t have to drive that far.

At the grand opening on Saturday, the first customer will get free donuts for a year and they’ll be giving away prizes throughout the day.
