Hyattsville Begins Work on New Trolley Trailhead Park
The city of Hyattsville has begun work on the second phase of a new park along the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail.
Located at 5215 Baltimore Ave., on the site of The Spot pop-up park behind Yes! Organic Market, the new park’s main feature will be a covered stage in front of a lawn with room for 60 people.
There will also be a playground, a seating area with moveable furniture, bicycle parking, a bike repair station, and a tree-lined path connecting to the Trolley Trail, according to a conceptual site design.
The city has put up a special “viewing platform” for “construction vehicle enthusiasts of all ages.”
The Spot started in 2021 as an informal pop-up park for community events and concerts. It quickly became a popular place for public art and live music.
It was the brainchild of the SoHy Co-op, a nonprofit group which helps support local businesses, with a grant made possible by Anacostia Trails Heritage Area.
The second phase of the park, projected to finish in early 2027, will be paid for with $1.4 million in grants.
