Before Savor at Studio 3807 opened in Brentwood in October as Prince George’s County’s first food hall, owner April Richardson was apprehensive about whether it would succeed until its grand opening day, which drew big crowds.

Now the largest African-American food hall in the country (and the first food hall in Prince George’s County), Savor attracts a regular crowd of locals on the weekdays while an average of 4,000 people come each weekend from as far away as Atlanta. Its vendors include Relish Market, DC Sweet Potato Cakes, Curated DMV, Little Miner Taco, Voss Food, Community Cocktail, and The Uncaged Chefs.

Just last Sunday, The Uncaged Chefs served over 1,300 customers with a line that stretched around the food hall itself.

Building on the success of Savor in Brewtwood, Richardson, who is also a practicing attorney, recently told the Hyattsville Wire she is working to open two other food halls under the same name and concept.

The first will be located in a food desert in Baltimore, with a similar size as the Brentwood location, about 8,000 square feet.

The second will be in Suitland, an unincorporated part of Prince George’s County just southeast of Anacostia. Richardson is planning for it to be around 30,000 square feet with even more vendors.

Both locations would feature many of the same vendors as in Brentwood in addition to a few new ones.

Like food trucks, food halls can be a great way for entrepreneurs to break into the restaurant industry without a lot of capital. They also reduce the amount of work that owners need to do and provide a steady stream of potential customers.
