Kaiser Permanente will build a new medical facility as part of the planned Riverfront at West Hyattsville development.

Located at 5620 Ager Road, the 48,000-square-foot facility will have 37 exam rooms, lab facilities, a pharmacy and a three-level parking garage. It will be 37 percent larger than the existing Kaiser facility at University Town Center.

“The Riverfront at West Hyattsville development is an ideal location for a new medical center where the community can access Kaiser Permanente’s innovations in delivering integrated, high-quality care,” said Ruth Williams-Brinkley, president of Kaiser Permanente.

The freestanding building will offer adult and family medicine, OB-GYN, pediatric, and imaging service to an estimated 27,000 patients a year.

Started in 2015, Riverfront at West Hyattsville is planned to be a mixed-use development with townhomes, apartments and shops along with a public park and amphitheater to take advantage of the nearby Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River.

Although the site has been cleared, construction work been delayed on the site, so the Kaiser announcement could be a positive sign that will change soon. The loss of Kaiser will leave University Town Center without a longstanding tenant, however.
