Three communities on the Route 1 corridor were recently highlighted by the Washington Post’s Austin Graff in his ongoing series of photo essays on D.C. suburbs.

In posts on a long-running series on Instagram, Graff has previously featured Hyattsville and Mount Rainier and, most recently, Bladensburg and Greenbelt, two cities that don’t get as much attention from D.C. media.

In Bladensburg, Graff recommends checking out historic buildings like the Bostwick House, the Hilleary Magruder House, and the George Washington House, ordering tacos at El Tapatio and shopping at the Village Thrift Store, among other things.

In Greenbelt, he recommends taking a walk at Buddy Attick Lake Park, checking out the Art Deco architecture downtown, and, when the coronavirus pandemic is over, checking out a movie at the Old Greenbelt Theater and live music at the New Deal Cafe.

For Hyattsville, he suggests eating top-rated tacos at Tacos 5 De Mayo Restaurant or Taqueria La Placita, meandering through the historic district to marvel at all the Victorian homes built in the late 1800’s, and visiting the eclectic Vanadu Art House at 3810 Nicholson Street.
