Indian and Pakistani restaurant Krazi Kebob will close in College Park next week after a decade in operation.
Owner Naumaan “Nomie” Hamid announced the eatery will close on Dec. 20 as the building it’s in is slated to be torn down to make way for a new apartment and retail development, although its catering kitchen will remain open.
Hamid said he is actively looking for a new space for the restaurant, hopefully somewhere nearby.
“We will announce our new location as soon as it is final,” he wrote on Facebook. “Thank you everyone for the love and support through the years we are hoping to be back in (College Park)!”
Hamid will also shut down neighboring Krazi Burrito, Cafe Hookah and The Kabob Joint, a virtual restaurant he launched during the pandemic.
The restaurant, one of the best places to eat halal on the Route 1 corridor, opened in October of 2010, using a Chipotle-style assembly line to put together naan wraps, naan quesadillas and rice bowls for hungry college students.
Hamid is a third-generation restaurateur. His grandfather, who immigrated from Pakistan, ran a popular sweet shop in New York City, and his father ran a restaurant in Baltimore. He opened Krazi Kebob in his mid 20s with help from the family business.
