New GoFundMe Launched to Help Hyattsville’s Marco & Polo Restaurant Reopen

Supporters of the now-closed Hyattsville restaurant Marco & Polo have started a GoFundMe to help its owner reopen in College Park.

The restaurant, which served Uyghur and Uzbek cuisine in a spot in University Town Center until this week, shut down after business slowed dramatically due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the success of fundraising drives for the Cornerstone Grill and the Bagel Place, friends of owner Gairatjan Rozi have started a GoFundMe to raise $10,000 to support his plan to reopen in a smaller space in College Park with a focus on to-go orders and delivery.

“Mr. Rozi is hopeful,” they write. “Having dedicated his new life in America to ‘Marco & Polo,’ he dreams of reopening his restaurant soon — in a new location that will attract even more customers.”

You can read more about Rozi’s remarkable life story on the Hyattsville Wire or in this recent New York Times column. To donate to the GoFundMe, click here.
