Hyattsville Has a Cameo in Political Ad

Screen Shot 2014-05-25 at 3.48.30 PMAn ad for Maryland gubernatorial candidate Anthony Brown highlights Hyattsville.

The 30-second TV ad, called “Not About the Numbers,” begins with a shot of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor before showing the front of Franklins Restaurant, Brewery and General Store, though it doesn’t show the more recognizable neon sign just to the left.

The script of the Democratic lieutenant governor’s ad is pretty standard rhetoric about making Maryland great “for every family in every community.” Hyattsville’s downtown seems to have been chosen to represent small towns, both because of its old-timey look and the town name on the old hardware store building.

The Baltimore Sun has more on the ad here, if you’re into that. Politics aside, the Hyattsville Wire thought it is a sign that Hyattsville’s revitalization is now secure enough to be included in what is a fairly safe political ad.
