College Park’s newest apartment building will feature some high-end amenities aimed at attracting a mix of students and young professionals.
When it opens in winter of 2019, Alloy by Alta will up the local apartment rental game with features like stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops and moveable kitchen islands.
But it’s the common areas where the extra touches will really show.
In keeping with a trend toward making more desirable public areas in apartment complexes aimed at young professionals, the building includes a lobby with digital artwork, a pool area that includes cabanas, a clubroom with moveable glass walls, a fitness center and a co-working space with private WeWork-like rooms.
The aim is to attract a mix of renters who are going to school and/or have jobs on campus, in the Discovery District or elsewhere in and around the Route 1 corridor.
“We created an environment that fosters interaction amongst students and young professionals,” Scott Zimmerly, director of developer Wood Partners said in a statement. “This concept is one of the first of its kind for the area.”
Located at 4700 Berwyn House Road, the 275-unit apartment building was the site of a five-alarm fire in April that was ruled accidental.
Along with the nearby University View and Varsity student housing, a hotel under construction next door, the new $180 million Hotel at the University of Maryland, and the Iribe Center under construction down the street, this part of College Park is about to have a lot more people walking around, giving the area a much more urban, walkable feel.
