]Here are the highly anticipated results of the Hyattsville Wire’s second Best of Route 1 Reader Poll, conducted in June and July of 2018, and based on nearly a thousand online submissions.

Best Place to Get Coffee: Vigilante Coffee

Vigilante again won this category by a healthy margin. Notable runners-up include Starbucks, Board and Brew, Bagels ‘n Grinds, Zeke’s and The Bagel Place.

Best Brewery: Franklins

Hometown favorite Franklins won in this new category, followed by newcomer Streetcar 82 Brewing Co., which had just opened when the survey was taken.

Best Restaurant: Franklins

In a sign of how much the local dining scene has changed, Franklins, which won in 2017 by a large margin, only narrowly edged out newcomer Burtons Grill and Bar, followed by Busboys and Poets, Old Maryland Grill, Shagga, Pizzeria Paradiso and Kapnos Taverna.

Best Sunday Brunch: Busboys and Poets

Busboys won commandingly for the second year in a row. Runners up included Milk and Honey Cafe, Kapnos Taverna, Bagels ‘n Grinds,  Old Maryland Grill and Silver Diner.

Best Pizza: Pizzeria Paradiso

Pizzeria Paradiso handily won in this category in its first year of operation, followed by Blaze Fast-Fired Pizza, The Original Ledo Restaurant, Lotsa Pizza, Potomac Pizza, Dumm’s Pizza and Subs, MOD Pizza and Slices.

Best Asian Restaurant: Northwest Chinese

Critics’ darling Northwest Chinese made the grade in this new category, followed by Tara Thai, Pho Thom, Aroy Thai and Hanami.

Best Latin American Restaurant: El Comalito

The Salvadoran pupuseria in Riverdale Park narrowly won in this new category over Pupuseria La Familiar, Cafe Azul and Las Comadres.

Best Take-Out or Delivery: Spice 6

The Arts District favorite again won this category, followed by Dumm’s and Potomac Pizza.

Best Place for Date Night: Burton’s Grill and Bar

The Riverdale Park Station newcomer won in this category but faced stiff competition from other new restaurants Kapnos Taverna, Old Maryland Grill and Pizzeria Paradiso, with Busboys and Poets also in the mix.

Best Place to Go Late at Night: MilkBoy ArtHouse

The new College Park music venue scored as a good spot for a late-night outing, with Franklins and Insomnia Cookies also making appearances.

Best Halal Restaurant: Food Factory

The College Park restaurant, which serves Middle Eastern and Indian fare, took the top spot, but it faced competition from Krazi Kebob and Elevation Burger.

Best Restaurant for Food Allergy Sufferers: Burton’s Grill and Bar

Burton’s easily beat out competitors Busboys and Poets and NuVegan Cafe in College Park.

Best Place to See Live Music: Milkboy Arthouse

The College Park restaurant and music venue again took the top spot, handily beating out the New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt, the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and Busboys and Poets.

Best Public Park: Lake Artemesia

The 38-acre natural area came from behind to overtake last year’s winner, Magruder Park. Other notable runners-up included Bladensburg Waterfront Park. and Buddy Attick Park in Greenbelt.

Best Playground: University Park Playground

A new playground next to the University Park Elementary took the top spot for the first time, followed by a new playground at Riverdale Park Station, pushing last year’s winner, Indian Creek Playground, to third place.

Best Place to Take the Kids: College Park Aviation Museum

The museum has large indoor and outdoor play areas, including flight simulators, coloring stations and an ERCO plane they can climb aboard, helping push it to first place again. Other notable runners-up include Franklins toy store, the splash fountain at Riverdale Park Statio and Artworks Now.

Best Piece of Public Art: The Bear at Riverdale Park Station

The stainless steel and urethane sculpture at Riverdale Park Station again took the top spot. Other notable runners-up included the Route 1 Ride bus, the Ercoupe plane at Riverdale Park Station and the Kermit the Frog statue in University Park.

Best Place to Go Running: Lake Artemesia Trail

The 1.4 mile trail’s greatest asset is connections to Paint Branch Trail, Indian Creek Trail and Northeast Branch Trail. Other notable runners-up included the Anacostia River Trail, the Trolley Trail and Paint Branch Trail.

Best Place to Go Biking: Anacostia River Trail

The 2.6 mile trail runs along the Anacostia River, including Bladensburg Waterfront Park and Colmar Manor Community Park. Other notable runners-up included Anacostia River Trail, Paint Branch Trail and the Trolley Trail.

Best Local Event: Hyattsville Arts & Ales Festival

The annual event showcases live bands, craft beers and more than a hundred arts vendors, pushing it to the top spot again. Other notable runners-up included Hyattsville’s Summer Jam series, Maryland Day at the University of Maryland and the Historic Hyattsville House Tour.

Best Hidden Gem: OpenBarre Studios

The College Park barre studio was the winner in this category for the second year in a row. Other runners-up included Numi Yoga in College Park, Crossfit Hyattsville and Revive Community Acupuncture  in College Park.

Best Locally Owned Shop: Numi Yoga

The College Park yoga studio won this category, beating out competition from OpenBarre Studios, Tanglewood Works, Franklins and Proteus Bicycles. Numi also won handily in the new category for “Best Yoga Studio.”

Best Woman-Owned Business: OpenBarre Studios

The College Park barre studio was the winner in this new category, followed by Numi Yoga, Crossfit Hyattsville, Proteus Bicycles, Tanglewood Works and Bee Yoga Fusion. OpenBarre also won easily in the new category “Best Fitness Studio.”

Best Bike Shop: Proteus Bicycles

The College Park bike shop edged out last year’s winner, Hyattsville’s Arrow Bicycle, with competition also coming from College Park Bicycles and the Mount Rainier Bike Co-Op.

Best Grocery Store: Whole Foods

The Riverdale Park grocery store took the top spot but faced renewed competition from a new MOM’s Organic Market in College Park as well as Yes! Organic Market in the Arts District, Safeway at University Town Center, and the Glut Food Co-Op in Mount Rainier.

Best Community Supported Agriculture: ECO City Farms

The non-profit teaching farm in Edmonston was again the far-away favorite in this category. Hungry Harvest and Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-Op also got votes.

Best Place to Get Beer on Tap: Town Center Market

Last year’s runner-up edged out perennial favorite Franklins and newcomer Pizzeria Paradiso.

Best Place to Buy Alcohol By the Bottle: Town Center Market

The Riverdale Park store also beat out Franklin’s handily in this new category.

Best Place to Get a Haircut: Today’s Hair

The College Park spot narrowly edged out last year’s winner, Bananas in College Park. The Hair Cuttery and Ivy Lounge were also rans

Best Local Artist: Margaret Boozer-Strother

The Mount Rainier artist took the top spot for the first time. Last year’s winner, sculptor Alan Binstock, was also mentioned.

Best Local Musician(s): Paint Branch Creek

The local Americana band, which released a CD earlier this year, took the top spot for the first time. Indie rock group Blue Plains, rockers Unring the Bell and New Orleans jazz band the Wild Anacostias were also mentioned.

Best Barista: Diane Contreras

Vigilante barista Diane Contreras again took the top spot.

Best Bartender: Kelly Weiss

A bartender at Pizzeria Paradiso, Weiss also works next door at Art Works Now.

Best Doctor: Dr. Michael Berard

Best Dentist: Dr. Anthony DiGregorio

Best Lawyer: Donald L. Bell

Best Real Estate Agent: Emily Jackson

Runners up included Ann Barrett and Alex Heitkemper, with Long and Foster.

Best Hair Stylist: Kathleen Hellington at Bananas

Best Handyman: Joe Fugere

Best Plumber: Fred Werth

Best Quantum Computing Company: IonQ
