PGC250 Passage to the Past Bicycle Tour

You are invited to take a commemorative bicycle tour of iconic historic sites to honor America’s Semiquincentennial in Prince George’s County as we explore the theme of “We the People.”

ABOUT THE RIDE
PGC250 created a bicycle tour for you to learn about the vast array of iconic historic sites in rural Prince George’s County while enjoying a bicycle trip. The route stops at iconic sites that have featured in the history of Prince Georges County such as Selby’s Landing, Columbia Airfield, Nottingham, St. Thomas’ Church, the Rural Life Museum and the Merkle Natural Resources Management Area. Riders will meet at the Patuxent River Park Pavilion and follow THIS ROUTE. (The route may be revised depending on road conditions at the time of the event. All roads are paved, though rural roads may be rough in places. Printed cue sheets indicating the turns will be available at the event.) Experienced volunteer cyclists will ride along with us to assist riders and site leaders will greet riders at each stop to provide information about the history and significance of the sites. Refreshments will be provided at selected stops, and at the end of the tour, which will end with closing remarks. This event is funded by a SHINE grant and was built in partnership with Sankofa Impact. Thank you to volunteers from the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club for their help and advice.
ABOUT PGC250
The United States Semiquincentennial is the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence which occurred on July 4, 2026. In 2023, Gov. Moore authorized the Maryland 250 Commission and charged it with developing, encouraging, and executing an inclusive observance of the 250th Anniversary that recognizes all Marylanders’ struggle for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness before, during, and after the Revolution, and identified three themes – history, civics, and service.
In Prince George’s County, Anacostia Trails Heritage Area (ATHA), the non-profit management entity of the county’s state-certified cultural tourism district, and PG Parks in the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission created PGC250.org to create a space for conversation and collaboration to spark ideas and partnerships to creatively illustrate and interpret our region’s contributions to American history. The theme for Prince George’s Commemoration is “We the People.”
