College Park Gets a Sneak Peek of the Purple Line
College Park got a sneak peek of the Purple Line on Thursday.
The Maryland Transit Administration brought one of the light-rail line’s railcars to the Baltimore Avenue stop, just south of the Hotel at the University of Maryland.
Gov. Wes Moore requested the visit so that attendees of the World Quantum Congress at the hotel could check it out, but staffers have also been regulars at street fairs and farmers’ markets along the route for a while.
Along with flyers and other information about the line, they are also giving out miniature foam replicas.
Among the passers-by who stopped by the big purple tent was University of Maryland President Darryll Pines, who joked that he wanted to drive one of the trains when it’s ready.
Purple Line drivers are conducting tests around Prince George’s County at night and Montgomery County during the day.
Construction is set to finish by the end of this year, with the first passengers riding in late winter 2027.
